They earned Class A Troop status, won the camp-wide games and were awarded a ribbon for best conservation project. Way to go Troop 55! The troop was led by Eagle Scout Candidate SPL Mike C and Life Scout ASPL Tristan K. Experienced campers as well as 5 first year campers made up the troop of 21 scouts. Congratulations to all for a job well done.

Welcome!

Welcome to BSA Troop 55. We are a boy led troop consisting of a diverse group of scouts ranging from 6th graders to seniors in high school. We pride ourselves on presenting the best that scouting has to offer in a fun, exciting, and safe atmosphere.  We utilize the patrol method of boy leadership and an active outdoor program to develop character, citizenship, service to others and physical fitness. If your son is looking for a challenge, Troop 55 offers adventures ranging from hiking & camping to white water rafting and canoeing, from shooting and archery to climbing and swimming. For fun with a purpose come along on what Sir Baden Powell referred to as "this great game we call Scouting".

Check It Out!

This was the first time the troop winter cabin camped at JN Webster Scout Reservation in Ashford, CT. It truly is a gem of a council camp and well worth the drive. The boys had fun sledding in the morning and then getting down to serious business by creating a plethra of great dutch oven cooked food. My mouth waters thinking of the chicken with rosemary, ham and veggies and the chicken wings I scarfed from the Thundercat Patrol. And if that wasn't enough, the patrols did a great jump on their desserts of chocolate cakes and cookies. Hats off to all the chefs including Mr. Waters for cooking the balance of the meals for the troop.

On my honor, I will do my duty to God . . . 14 Scouts and various parents participated in our annula Scout Sunday observation. The scouts acted as ushers, readers, collected the offering and served coffee hour following the service. Thanks to Pastor Paul for integrating so much of the scout principals into the service. We are thankful for the space and encouragment that The Methodist Church of Watertown show Troop 55.

Our second Junior Leadership Training Conference was held this past January. 12 boys participated and learned valueable lessons on different leadership styles, motivating and working together as a patrol as well as communication, trust and effective leadership traits. The boys came away pumped and will use the tools to better manage our boy run troop.

A great time was had by all who went on our January hike to Groton Point and the side trip to the Nautlis Submarine & Museum. It sure was odd and thrilling to be eating our lunch on the boulders as the waves of LI sound crashed on shore. A walk along the beach yielded plenty of samples of shells from scallops to mussels. Way to get outside and enjoy the season Troop 55!

Thanks goes out to the scouts and leaders who lent a hand at the service day at Camp Barbour on the weekend of Nov. 20-21. Temps dipped into the low 30's but the troop did a great job working the trails, establishing new camp sites and camping out overnight. Now that's wonderful scout spirit!

Congratulations to Zach H. for completing his Eagle Service Project. His bench and covering that creates a protected sitting area for seniors at the town's senior center came out beautifully. Thanks to all who helped out!

Congrats to the Watertown High School Cross Country Team on an excellent season including a league title, a top three placing in the states and an overall 7th place ranking  in the state - WOW! Our own Quinton & Nate were integral parts to the success of the team. Way to go guys.

Kudos go out the Watertown High School Soccer Team and their league Championship! Our illustrious SPL Zach is a member of the team - way to play defense Zach!

As you all know, Andrew D. has had his Eagle Court of Honor last Thursday. It is a great privilege and honor to add him to the on going list of Eagles from Troop 55! Congrats Andrew and always keep Scouting, and Troop 55, in your heart. We hope to see you as an adult some time in the future.
